| Reach Out and Touch Someone - Not Anymore |
|
A not so subtle change is occurring in business today that promises to have far reaching implications.
Technology is making an extremely big impact on the way we communicate. Dwindling are the days of communicating face-to-face, or over a phone, let along by personal letter. Through the wonders of technology, we are now able to reach out and touch people we can not see, and may never see. According to a recent Challenger, Gray & Christmas survey, this trend away from human contact in our communications is resulting in workers becoming increasingly isolated. Corporate travel managers indicate that business travel was half of what it was the previous year. Rather, workers are relying on e-mail, net-meetings and teleconferencing. The Challenger findings conclude with the suggestion—perhaps with tongue-in-cheek—that the next workplace job to be created could be "Director of Socialization." |
